The scene of the crash
Yesterday, I couldn’t resist returning to the scene of the mishap on my bicycle. I just had to take a look at the manhole cover that took me down.
So, here it is. I remember it as being 4-5 inches deep. In reality, it’s only 3-4 inches. I’m not sure whether another inch deeper would have made any difference in the final outcome.
In the left photo, you can see the gatorade stain(in the distance, to the right of the white line) that I left in the road. That’s pretty much where I came to rest after it happened.

Wow Pete!
I can certainly relate to your pain. Fortunate that you completed the Dream Tour without mishap.
Get well, and I hope to see you on the road.

Oh My Gosh! that’s all I can say. I keep saying it over and over and I can’t seem to stop. Oh My Gosh, oh my gosh, OH MY GOSH!
My goodness, Pete. Take care of yourself. And to Pat, sorry, the babysitting gig isn’t up yet!

Hi Peter - I would think there must be a lot of vehicles with wrecked tires not to mention biker’s bodies all over the street. Hey but we are thankful it was not worse. Later, M&D

Pete,
While you have some down time on your hands maybe a strongly phrased letter to the city or your ward/precinct representative would be in order. Include in your letter a link to this place:

Gees Pete, I thought I was just enjoying the summary of statistics from your ride when I happened upon the dreadful event description of your crash. You just wanted to look scary for Halloween, right? Hope you are feeling better soon!
