October 13: Eureka to Ely, Nevada
Our stay in Eureka was a minor milestone for The Dream Tour: it was the first time since late March that we’ve stayed at a motel that carried television stations from Salt Lake City. It was like seeing old friends again!
I saw Bill and Art, the cyclists from New York, on the road again today. They had gotten an earlier start than I had, but I caught up with them just before lunch. We were all making our way up Little Antelope Summit (7490 feet). We all stopped for lunch at the top. It seemed like the time to take some photos. From there, we also admired the very first glimpse of Wheeler Peak (13,065 feet). Wheeler Peak is the second highest peak in Nevada and is very close to the Nevada border with Utah.
The weather today was much like yesterday: clear skies, moderate temperatures and calm winds. I have to say we’ve been very lucky when it comes to October weather in this part of the country. A cold front moving in from the north would make these days of cycling through Nevada’s basins and ranges a very different experience. But, hey, it would give me something to write about, right? I suppose that by mentioning the good weather, I’ve jinxed it. Now we’re going to have a cold front for sure. Stay tuned!

Well, I don’t know if you jinxed it or not, but let’s just say we’ve had beautiful weather lately… until now. Tonight we are supposed to be hit with a cold front with precipitation in the Salt Lake Area. High’s for the next three days will not hit 60 and lows at night will be near freezing.

We crossed paths on Highway 6 just on the Utah side of the UT/NV border today morning 10/16 (we were in a 4×4 white van with bikes on top). We saw the URL on your support van, and it looked interesting enough to check out.
Best of luck on the last couple days of your trip. Truely inspiring, and it definately looks like a whole load of fun.
