After finishing our ride yesterday, we drove to St. Peter, Minnesota to visit with my parents for a couple days. St. Peter is also the town where I grew up and also went to college.
This afternoon, I did a quick “Tour of St. Peter” (by bicycle, of course) to see some of the things I remember about St. Peter. And, you guessed it, I’m going to subject you all to the photos that I took. The weirdest thing about this “Tour of St. Peter” is that everything looked a lot smaller than what I remember. Weird.

Here’s St. Peter Hospital, the place were I was born. |

Here’s the St. Peter Community Swimming Pool. This pool is right across the street from the house where I grew up. This pool is also where I worked as a lifeguard and water safety instructor while I was in high school and college. |

Here’s a photo of 405 North Fourth Street, the house where I grew up. It looks completely different now though because of the tornado that ripped through St. Peter back on March 29, 1998. Because of the tornado, the big trees that were in the front yard are completely gone and many of houses in the neighborhood are completely new. My parents were living in St. Peter at the time of the tornado, but they weren’t living in this house. In 1978, they moved a few miles east and south of St. Peter. There was no damage at their house, but they recall having a rainfall of shredded debris from the homes in St. Peter. |

Here’s a photo of North Elementary, the school where I went to kindergarten through sixth grade. The classroom on the second floor at the right end of the building is the classroom where my sixth grade class was. |

Here’s a photo of St. Peter High School, where I went to high school. |

Here’s a photo of Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. I did my undergraduate studies at Gustavus, graduating in 1982. One of the landmarks on the Gustavus campus is Christ Chapel. The tornado that hit St. Peter back in 1998 broke the steeple in half. |

Pete-
I love all of the building pictures, of course, especially the one of your house. Interesting that the new owners haven’t replanted the yard trees. St. Peter seems like an idyllic place to grow up.
