July 25: Bremen to Hebron, Indiana

We’re definitely in the plains states now. The terrain is nearly always very flat, but there is occasionally a river valley or lake area with some relief.

The day started cloudy and humid. It felt like it might start raining at any moment. About mid-morning, the clouds faded away and the temperatures rose to the point of being a bit uncomfortable. The humidity was high so I once again spent the day with a soaking wet jersey. Indiana corn Indiana scenery The longer I was wet, the more I worried about my infusion site. I kept checking it whenever I would stop and it seemed to be doing OK. It’s on my left side now about midway between my armpit and waist. If it can stay in place until tomorrow, that would be great because I’m due then for a site rotation and I can try the new supply of Skin-Prep that I bought when I was in Goshen. The people at the medical supply store seemed to think that it’s a common problem for the adhesive on these I.V. dressings and protective wipes to dry out when they’re exposed to heat. If they’re right, that would explain why I’m having these problems with my sites not staying in place.

Sixy-eight miles after starting in Bremen, I finished the ride in Hebron, Indiana. There’s no lodging in Hebron, so after putting the bike on the bike rack, we drove to Schererville to visit and stay the night with my cousins Jennifer and Ed Sparks and their two sons Dan and Matt. We hadn’t seen them in a few years and they had recently moved to Schererville, so it was a great opportunity for us to see them.
