July 19: Cincinnati, Ohio to Kentucky (and back again)

Thirty-two states done now. We crossed the border into Kentucky from Cincinnati, Ohio this morning and enjoyed cycling through 24 miles of roadway in the great state of Kentucky.

We chose the River Road (also known as Kentucky highway 8) as the small part of the of Kentucky that we would experience today because it is reportedly one of the most popular cycling routes in northern Kentucky.

We decided to cross the Ohio River using the Anderson Ferry, which runs every fifteen minutes during the day and connects Ohio’s River Road with Kentucky’s River Road. But, I didn’t want to drive across the border, I wanted to cross the border the same way I’ve crossed all the other state borders. — by bicycle. So when we got close to the Anderson Ferry, I hopped on my bicycle, and “rode” across on the ferry.

Once across, I rode 12 miles on Kentucky highway 8 in the downstream direction. The River Road gets smaller and smaller the further downstream you go until it is just a single lane. At the end of the road, there’s a view of the river with some kind of industrial plant on the far side.

The return trip was on the same road. This is actually a first for The Dream Tour. I don’t normally get a chance to ride on roads more than once.

After we were back on the Ohio side, we packed everything up and headed back to Findlay, Ohio. Tomorrow, I will continue west and north towards Chicago from where I left off.

Here’s a link to the photos from today’s ride:
