June 25: Putnam, Connecticut to Harvard, Massachusetts
Just like yesterday, I woke up early and looked out the window to see what the weather was like. Just like yesterday, it was coming down pretty hard. Just like yesterday, I went back to bed.
I woke up to someone knocking at our door. It was our 7 AM breakfast being delivered. The place we stayed at in Putnam offered in-room delivery of breakfast as part of their standard room rate. Breakfast and an alarm clock built into one. Very nice!
I checked the weather again. Still raining. We proceeded to get ourselves packed and ready to go. I gathered my rain gear, expecting a day-long ride in the rain.
I left the hotel just after 9 AM. Within ten minutes of leaving the hotel, the heavy rain had let up to nothing more than a slight sprinkle. Talk about good timing!
I was headed east towards Rhode Island, the twenty-sixth state that I will have cycled through. I crossed the border into Rhode Island about eight miles into the ride and fifteen miles later, I crossed the border into Massachusetts, our twenty-seventh state.
Shortly after crossing the border into Massachusetts, I took a left onto a four-lane road into Uxbridge, Massachusetts. Up to this point, I was riding happily on rural roads. This road was clearly a heavily traveled road, but it was very quiet on a Sunday morning. Anyway, there was a kinds of junk on the shoulder of the road and I soon heard the hiss of a flat tire. The rear one, of course. The front one would be too easy, too clean. I have yet to have a flat on the front tire and this was only the fifth flat on The Dream Tour, so I’m not complaining.
I rode on a lot of rural roads which was surprising to me considering we’re within 60 miles of Boston. So, I took a number of great pictures today. Here’s a link to them:

Peter,
I’ve been to Worcester, MA many times for Boston Scientific. Very nice town. There is a restaurant called “The Sole Proprietor” in Worcester that I would recommend. You guys deserve a nice meal.

Hi Pete,
Where will you be staying in the Harvard, MA area? What are some of the other places in MA that you will be stopping at?
