Milford to Cedar City, Utah

Clouds over Minersville, Utah Today, the weather was still pretty cool (mid-30’s at the start warming up to low 50’s in Cedar City), but unlike the previous three days, we had no precipitation on us all day! And a tailwind! Here’s a great photo (to the right) of the clouds over Minersville, Utah. This photo is looking back towards Minersville as we headed south and up into the Black Mountains.

Peter and Marty at the summit Today was Marty’s last day riding before he heads back home. So, not needing to save himself for tomorrow’s ride, he was putting the hurt on me as we climbed towards the summit of the Black Mountains on the Minersville Highway (Highway 130). From there (the picture at the left), we had a very long and pleasant descent into Cedar City. The more we descended, the warmer it got.

    Hi Pete and Pat,

Enjoying following your ride via the web. Sounds like you’ve been getting some tough weather. (Nice fall days here in Argentina, but I’ll be back in Utah next week).

Best of luck. Denise and I are thinking of you both.

I like the looks of the deserted (?) road. Not much truck traffic. Hope you can get more of that kind of highway. M&D

    Hi, Peter,

You must be exhausted by the end of the day.
These are some questions from our class:
    1. How long will it take you to get to the next state?
    2. When do you think the weather’s going to change?
    3. How much time have you been riding all together?

    Thank you.

    1. We’re going to be in Arizona on Saturday, March 25th. But, by the end of the day, we’ll be back in Utah (Kanab) for an overnight stay. On March 26th, we’ll be travelling to Page, Arizona.
    2. For those of us in Cedar City, the weather has already changed! It was 54 degrees and mostly sunny today here and tomorrow is supposed to be 61 degrees and sunny.
    3. I keep track of each ride using a cyclometer on my bicycle. The readings from that device are:
      • 3/18/2006: Salt Lake City to Provo. 54.5 miles, three hours and 52 minutes
      • 3/19/2006: Provo to Nephi. 49.7 miles, four hours and 51 minutes
      • 3/20/2006: Nephi to Delta. 50.5 miles, four hours and 19 minutes
      • 3/21/2006: Delta to Milford. 75.2 miles, six hours and 55 minutes
      • 3/22/2006: Milford to Cedar City. 54.4 miles, four hours and 1 minute

That’s a total of 284.3 miles in 23 hours and 59 minutes. You might be interested to know that these times include all the stops we make during the day.

Hi Pat and Pete! Here it is Saturday eve (oops, Sun morn at 12:10 a.m.) and I just finished watching the Utah womens’ basketball team beat Boston College and are now going into the “elite eight!!” Great, fun game! Thought I would check in and see how the great white travelers were doing! Sounds like the weather is getting better and better. Right now we are having high winds and hail — lovely, huh? I’m anxious to get on my bike to prep for a couple bike tours this summer but, if the weather continues to do what it’s doing, I’m not sure I’ll make it!!! You see, I’m kind of a fair weather rider!!

I think about you both often and tell everyone who will listen to me about your dream! Hey, Pete, we’ll miss you at our first Executive Committee meeting this Monday!!

    Love to you both,

    Jane
