Today’s ride and blood sugar readings
Today’s ride was 75 miles from Delta, Utah to Milford, Utah. The weather report for today said that snow was likely and 20-25 mph headwinds. The reality was much kinder to us. We had a headwind (10 mph or so) for well over half the ride, but we only had occasional raindrops….until the last two miles. We were about three miles from Milford when it started snowing. By the time we were two miles from Milford, it was snowing so hard that I couldn’t look down the road because the snow was blowing into my face so hard. All you could do was to follow the white line on the side of the road and look up briefly to make sure the white line wasn’t guiding you into something. Like a parked car. At the right is a photo of Marty as he arrived at the motel in Milford at the end of the ride.
Today, I rode with my basal rate dropped to 70% of it’s normal rate of 0.3 units per hour. Here are blood sugar readings that I took today with my Bayer Breeze meter.
| Time | Blood sugar (mg/dl) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 6:13AM | 142 | fasting |
| 8:07AM | 142 | pre-ride |
| 9:49AM | 81 | 40 minutes into ride |
| 11:16AM | 81 | |
| 12:14PM | 76 | |
| 1:53PM | 121 | |
| 3:51PM | 93 | after ride |
I’m afraid I don’t have the exact times, but during the ride, I ate 3 and a half energy bars (44 grams of carbohydrate each) plus a bagel with peanut butter and jam (one of my favorites during a ride).

I think (we hope) that you’ll have nicer weather tomorrow.
