Dream Tour Preparation Stress

I received an email from someone this morning that reminded me to write about something that has been on my mind for the last week or so: the stress of the last minute preparations for The Dream Tour.

It was last Tuesday that I woke up with blood sugar of 296. About 200 points higher than I like it to be in morning — or any time for that matter — and the highest it has been in morning in a very, very long time. I checked my infusion site and tubing for any obvious sign of a malfunction and there wasn’t any so, I made the conclusion that because I hadn’t ridden the bike for a couple days and with all the preparations, the stress was getting to me. I checked for ketones, bolused a correction, and vowed to get out for a ride later in the day.

When I did get out for a ride that afternoon, it was a struggle to get out the door, because I had so many other things to get done that day. But, I always try to make exercise — whether it’s bicycle riding or otherwise — a first priority every day. So, I put everything else aside and went riding. And, you know what? Shortly after I got out, I felt all that stress melting away. I know you’ve all heard people say that a million times, but it is so true! You can ask Pat about this — when I returned, I was in a much better mood and much more relaxed. The power of exercise!
